The Rolex Submariner Bluesy in Two-Tone Steel and Gold

Blue dial, blue bezel, steel and gold. The Submariner that dresses up.

The Two-Tone Submariner, Explained

The Bluesy is the two-tone Rolex Submariner Date: an Oystersteel and yellow-gold case and bracelet, a sunburst blue dial, and a matching blue ceramic bezel. We stock it in both sizes, the 40mm 116613LB and the current 41mm 126613LB, plus the black-dial 126613LN twin. Japanese Miyota automatic, from $359.

The Rolex Submariner Bluesy in Two-Tone Steel and Gold

What Makes a Bluesy a Bluesy

Bluesy is the collector nickname for the two-tone Submariner Date with a blue dial. Rolex calls the steel-and-gold mix Rolesor: an Oystersteel case and bracelet with yellow gold on the bezel, the crown, and the center bracelet links. Put a blue dial and a blue bezel on top of that gold and you get the warmest, dressiest Submariner Rolex makes. Our replica copies the whole recipe, the Oystersteel case, the yellow-gold plating on bezel and crown and center links, the sunburst blue dial, and a blue Cerachrom-style ceramic bezel with gold-filled numerals.

Two generations sit on our shelf. The 116613LB ran from 2009 to 2020 with a 40mm case and slimmer lugs. The 126613LB replaced it in 2020: 41mm, wider lugs, a redesigned Oyster bracelet, and it is the current reference. Same blue-and-gold look, different size. The 40mm wears smaller and a little more vintage. The 41mm wears bigger and more modern. If you have a slim wrist, take the 40mm. If you want the watch Rolex sells today, take the 41mm. Both are $359.

Want the same two-tone case in a quieter color? The 126613LN swaps the blue dial and bezel for black. It is the Bluesy's twin, same steel-and-gold construction, just understated. And if you want to go all the way, the full yellow-gold 126618LB drops the steel for an all-gold case with the same blue dial. Three ways to wear gold and blue, one shelf.

What we copy and what we do not. We get the case shape, the 40 or 41mm size, the blue ceramic bezel, the gold plating on bezel and crown and center links, the sunburst dial, and the Glidelock clasp. Two honest gaps you should know. The gold is plating over steel, not solid gold. And the movement is a Japanese Miyota automatic with about 40 hours of reserve, not the Rolex Caliber 3235. Water resistance is splash-safe, not 300 meters. On the wrist nobody can tell. On a scale or a timing machine, that is where the gap shows.

Bluesy Questions, Answered Straight

Is the Bluesy bezel real ceramic?

Yes. It is a blue Cerachrom-style ceramic insert with gold-filled numerals. Ceramic will not fade in sunlight or scratch from normal wear, which is the giveaway on budget fakes that use painted or anodized aluminum.

116613LB or 126613LB, which should I buy?

The 116613LB is 40mm with slimmer lugs, made 2009 to 2020, and wears a touch vintage. The 126613LB is 41mm, the current reference, and wears more modern. Slim wrist or vintage taste, take the 40mm. Want the watch Rolex sells now, take the 41mm. Both are $359.

Is the gold real?

On the two-tone Bluesy the gold is yellow-gold plating over steel, not solid gold. The all-gold 126618LB is plated throughout. Plating is durable and looks right in hand, but it is not solid gold, and we will not tell you otherwise.

Will it fit my wrist?

The 40mm suits roughly a 17 to 19cm wrist and the 41mm an 18 to 20cm wrist. The Oyster bracelet sizes by adding or removing links, so tell us your wrist size when you order and we pre-size it before it ships.

Does the Bluesy come in black?

Yes, the 126613LN. Same two-tone steel-and-gold case and bracelet, but a black dial and black bezel instead of blue. It is the Bluesy's understated twin.

What movement is inside, and what does it cost?

A Japanese Miyota automatic with about 40 hours of power reserve and a smooth sweeping seconds hand. Accurate to within a few seconds a day. The Bluesy starts at $359.
