The Milgauss line was built in 1956 for CERN engineers and scientific personnel exposed to magnetic fields above 1,000 gauss (mille gauss, hence the name). Reference 116400GV revived the platform in 2007 with the green sapphire crystal, an in-house material Rolex calls a manufacturing trade secret since no other brand has replicated the tint.
40mm 904L steel Oyster case, smooth polished bezel, electric Z-Blue sunburst dial with orange minute track and the signature lightning-bolt seconds hand. Applied steel indices, polished baton hands.
Japanese Miyota 9015 automatic at the $359 tier, Swiss 3131-clone at $999, both with soft-iron Faraday cage inside the case for anti-magnetic shielding. Oyster bracelet with Oysterlock clasp. The GV (verre vert) crystal shifts from teal to amber depending on light angle.
